Walt Pozdro just sent me this sketch, a little different from the one in the book for the story named “Cometh”. Walt was showing the beginning of that story:
“Every four or five days, Mike, our ice man, drove his truck onto Burling Street, year-round. Our house was one of his stops. While the truck was still rolling, he’d look at our front windows and know exactly how many pounds of ice Mom wanted. If a rectangular sign in the window was placed so the number 25 was in the upward position, Mrs. Pozdro wanted a 25-pound block of ice delivered that day. Depending on the placement of the card, Mike knew if 25, 50, 75 or 100 pounds was the order.”
